The National Football League is convinced that legal online gambling will compromise the integrity of their game.
The NFL is one of world’s most powerful professional sports organizations and while the Poker Players Alliance (PPA) is working on a plan how to repeal the UIGEA by the U.S. Congress, the NFL is trying to block the PPA, hoping the law could stay unchanged.

Brian McCarthy, a spokesman for the NFL, claimed that by overturning the UIGEA, the illegal gambling on professional football games will increase. Already now the gambling on games is a multi-billion dollar industry.
He also affirmed that they want to oppose the Internet betting on their games, because it compromises the integrity of the game and also all the values the game represents.

PPA’s chairman, Al D’Amato, has used some strong words by responding on NFL’s protest against the legal online gambling. He claimed it’s not on their business what he is doing in his home on the internet.

The NFL is not the only sports organization that is fighting to keep the UIGEA active. Other organizations are the NCAA and the leagues for professional basketball, hockey and baseball.
The NFL dared more and has been the most vocal on the topic and still it’s fighting to win the cause over the Congress.
It came out that the league has opposed gambling already in 1960.
